What does it mean to be a citizen of a country while tapping on the entire region as one’s creative space? Set in a hipster cafe in Jogjakarta, Good Morning Jogja explores the lives of 2 Singapore artists – one living and working in Jogjakarta and the other, a cultural enthusiast visiting Jogjakarta. The play delves into the poignant observations made by the two characters, juxtaposed against their experiences of working and living in two different environments. It tells a story of real-life experiences versus imagined perceptions, of mental versus physical spaces, of cultural heritage versus nationalistic boundaries, and the of the need to be rooted versus the desire to be free.
