Selubung tells the story of a group of friends as they navigate their final year in university. When Najwa’s big secret is revealed, the group find themselves at crossroads as they grapple with issues of faith, friendship, and agency. The script, written by PB19’s very own committee, deals with questions relating to the female body, the right of choice and religiosity. We aim to recognise and acknowledge the multiplicities of lived experiences with regards to issues that are often left ignored and to provide a nuanced perspective. We would also like to highlight the importance of seeking help as well as the responsibility others have towards their loved ones.
NUS Pentas Budaya is an annually-held Malay theatrical production which aims to be a platform to focus on issues pertinent in the Malay society. This year, our play will be touching on issues and problems faced by youths. The theatre play provides an avenue for the audience to be critical about society and its system, educating the public on the issues discussed in an entertaining manner.
